Case Study #2
Adding Filters

Requirement:
Our dealer requested we provide them with a 1x TV tube that had filter capabilities for use on OPTEMs’ standard zooms.  Three filters were easily indexed in front of the camera.  A fourth filter was required to be in the path at all times.
This fluorescence setup was necessary to allow the barrier filter to be installed in the TV tube.  Above the barrier filter, three additional narrow band pass filters could provide additional separation of the signal.

Our Custom Solution:

OPTEM proposed a simple mechanical design to provide a detented three-position turret that was incorporated in the TV tube design.  An adjustable C mount(4) allowed parfocaling of the system to a zoom.  This system allowed fewer uses of filters.  The only requirement in this case was to provide equal thickness of glass in each position to preserve parfocality.  The thread at the bottom(1) allowed easy mounting to OPTEM standard zooms and fixed magnification systems.

Systems similar to this could provide the means to easily insert contrast enhancement filters into the optical path.  A second modification of the package would allow the turret to be placed at the lower end of the TV tube, closer to the zoom.
